The History

Started in 2007 by a group of citizens in Detroit Lakes who were concerned about the shortage of public school funding. They established a foundation designed to support our local school system, its student, and its staff.

2016 Grants Awarded

DLPEF's seventh grant cycle occurred in February of 2016.  Twenty-four applications were received and nine applications totaling $10,823 were approved. These funds were donated to the Detroit Lakes Public Schools to support these initiatives:

  • Document Camera - ABE

  • Data Collecting Enhancements for Science - DLHS

  • Shared Reading and Take Home Lap Books - Roosevelt

  • Student Sensory Swing - DLMS

  • Project Based Learning - ALC

  • Coding with Beebots in Kindergarten - Roosevelt

  • Mobile Makerspace - Rossman

  • Second Grade Document Cameras - Rossman

  • Fleece Blankets for Crisis Center - DLMS

2013 Grants Awarded

DLPEF's fourth grant cycle occurred in February of 2013.  Eleven applications were received and seven applications totaling $9880 were approved. These funds were donated to the Detroit Lakes Public Schools to support five initiatives:

  • E-Books for Media Centers - District Wide

  • Differentiated Reading Library - Grade 4 Roosevelt Elementary

  • iPads - Alternative Learning Center

  • iPads - Grade 2 Rossman

  • Calculators - High School Math

  • iPod Learning Center - Grade 3 Roosevelt

  • iPads for Physical Education - High School
