The Purpose (Informational Brochure)

The mission of the Detroit Lakes Public Education Foundation is to fund and promote excellence in education and enhance student achievement through partnerships involving alumni, parents, educators, students, businesses, and the greater Detroit Lakes Community. The DLPEF is a component fund of west Central Initiative and is a 501-C3 tax exempt organization. The foundation is led by a seven member volunteer governing board: Laurie Lewandowski, Denise Kettner, Gary Krogsgaard, Hans Gilsdorf, and Deanna Sinclair.

2016 Grants Awarded
In 2016, the Detroit Lakes Public Education Foundation (DLPEF) received the highest annual number of grant applications to date. Twenty-four (24) impressive applications requesting a total of $46,228.78 were submitted.    These applications were reviewed by the District’s Staff Screening Committee, and subsequently forwarded to the Foundation Committee for final approval.  With the distribution of the 2016 grant funds, the DLPEF has contributed $66,814.89 to the Detroit Lakes School District over the past eight (8) grant cycles.

Total Grant Awards:  $10,823.     Some amounts approved were adjusted based on the recommendation of school administration, updated cost estimates due to the school districts volume purchasing abilities, and the grant dollars available for distribution.

After the grant programs have been completed, each grant recipient will be required to provide the Foundation with a summary of how their program benefited students and how staff utilized these resources.

2017 Grant Distribution

DLPEF will begin its ninth round of grant distributions in the fall of 2017.  Forms are available online to begin preparation of grant requests. Deadline for application is January 31, 2017
